Redskins Rant

Halfway through the NFL season and I'm pleased to say that my favorite team is 2-5. That's right, I said 2-5. The Washington Redskins are my favorite team, but for the life of me I can't say why. Every single year they go into the season with the most overrated team, and every year with the exception of last season they are always categorized as a "disappointment." As much as I like them, I can't help but root against them week in and week out. Their owner could care less about how the team ends up as long as his pocketbook continues to grow, and their coaching staff is by far the most arrogant in the league. After 6 years owning the franchise, one would think Snyder would understand that the free agent barrage every March does not equate to victories in the fall. They waste their draft picks on "proven" players such as TJ Suck My Nuts and Brandon "Mr. Inconsistent" Lloyd and when they turn out to do nothing they will try the same exact approach next year. I must say, the draft picks the Reskins do end up taking in the last couple years have been superb. Taylor Jacobs and Rocky McIntosh have done wonders turning around the franchise, Carlos Rogers is improving morale for free agent cornerbacks looking for jobs, and Jason Campbell is getting rave reviews in the clipboard holding classes, but only managed a B- in headset operations.
As for the coaching staff--what exactly does Joe Gibbs do besides post game press conferences? If you can answer that you're smarter than I am. It has been well published that Al Saunders has a 700 page playbook. Amazingly only one of those pages seems to work with the Redskins. Teams can watch a Chiefs game from last year and know the Redskins playbook better than they do. I also have to commend Gregg Williams's decision to let LaVar Arrington go. Warrick Holdman fits in with the Redskins defense a lot better--has no football instincts, can't rush the passer, and can't tackle anybody. Another good call was getting Adam Archuleta--a safety who couldn't cover Kerry Collins if he was running a pattern. Apparently he is arrogant enough to believe he could win with those scrubs than by all means, let him lose.
